I have a not-so-secret secret to share with ya’ll. I love boy bands. Before ya’ll start judging me based on my musical tastes I would like to point out that I have an insanely eclectic musical palette that ranges from country to classical, classic rock to pop punk, and pop to modern rap. But the truth isĀ  I have loved boy bands for as far back as I remember. NKOTB, BSB, Nsync, Big Time Rush, One Direction. I love ’em all, even the not as popular groups like 5ive, No Authority and Mytown. But my all time favorite boy band… is 98 Degrees. My favorite 98 Degrees member has always been Drew Lachey, the soulful baritone with the puppy dog brown eyes. *swoon*

I admit that as I got older I stopped following his career as closely as I once did, but Spliced (A.K.A.-The Wisher) came out in 2002, when I was still in high school. I should have known this movie existed, but I did not. In fact, I had no knowledge of this movie before I saw one of the Horror Honey’s live tweet it. (Do ya’ll follow the Horror Honey’s? If not, you really should- they are funny, sarcastic and unflinching in their reviews.)

It’s probably good that I didn’t know about the movie though because it was pretty bad and it might have ruined my favorite crush. The movie is about a girl who sees a movie that features subliminally messages that apparently turns susceptible audience members into serially killers. She starts being followed by someone dressed as the Wisher (the murderer in the movie she sees). The stalker starts making her wishes come true in pretty awful ways; killing people, cutting out tongues etc. It’s bad. Like most horror movies this one tries to convince the audience that one character is the killer when its actually someone else. While I saw through the attempt to trick the audience, I admit I did not guess who the actual killer was. I am usually pretty good at that though so I blame poor writing for not laying the proper ground work. Or maybe I was too busy watching Drew… Who knows?

Anyway, the movie was not good and it definitely wasn’t awesomely bad. But if you are like me and would enjoy it just for the scenes with Drew and his disappointingly wooden acting, it is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
